Call for project for First Cut Lab Australia is currently ongoing.

TATINO, over the last few months, has launched a number of important calls for projects, linked to some its in-house programs like First Cut Lab or through prestigious partner programs, like the ones with Screen Australia or with PROG Producers and Netflix. Here's a brief summary of all ongoing projects:

First Cut Lab RE-ACT

First Cut Lab RE-ACT is a comprehensive consultancy and training program dedicated to fiction and documentary feature films in the editing phase.

First Cut Lab and RE-ACT are back with a second call, part of a collaboration running until December 2028. This second cycle marks a significant expansion: Montenegro joins as a new guest partner of the RE-ACT consortium, and First Cut Lab is delighted to welcome films from the country alongside films from Croatia, Friuli Venezia Giulia, and Slovenia. This three-year period offers an exclusive opportunity for films from all four territories to participate in the lab.

First Cut Lab selected teams (director/producer/editor) are offered a creative framework, both protective and challenging, in which to open up and explore new artistic perspectives for their films. Participants receive expert feedback on their rough cut from three international film industry advisors, as well as tailor-made advice from a consultant editor. They are also provided with a memo report that can serve as guidance for further editing.

Consultant editors and industry advisors are selected according to the specific needs and profiles of the chosen projects. Internationally recognised editors working with the lab include Benjamin Mirguet, Cătălin Cristuțiu, Agnieszka Glińska, and Maya Maffioli, among others. An overview of First Cut Lab’s regular industry advisors is available here: http://firstcutlab.eu/people/

First Cut Lab RE-ACT is made in cooperation and with the financial support of the RE-ACT initiative, notably allowing the absence of tuition fee for the participating projects.

Submission deadline:

10 July 2026

Program structure

The program will take place online, and each film will be workshopped within the period from 1st August 2026 to 31st January 2027.

Each film is accompanied by First Cut Lab for a period of roughly 6 weeks, even though the core of the Lab takes place over two consecutive days.

The exact dates of the Lab will be chosen in agreement with each selected team to best answer the needs of their films. A preferred period for the Lab should be mentioned in the application form.

First Cut Lab Australia

TATINO and Screen Australie have just announced the launch of First Cut Lab Australia. This new initiative aims to support early to mid-career Australian filmmakers with dedicated feedback to create the optimal cut of their feature film. To be eligible, projects must be narrative content intended for theatrical release, but do not need to have been previously supported by Screen Australia funding.

Screen Australia Head of Market & Audience Rakel Tansley said:

“Connecting Australian stories to audiences locally and globally has never been more complex, making it critical that filmmakers have access to the right tools, expertise and audience insights. Through our First Cut Lab and Impact & Insights partnerships, Australian creatives will have the opportunity to work alongside international leaders and access guidance, research and audience intelligence to shape their projects and strategies. Our aim is to empower filmmakers to maximise the potential for Australian stories to resonate at home and around the world.”

About this exciting new initiative, Julie Marnay, Co-Head of First Cut Lab, added:

"First Cut Lab is delighted to launch this new partnership with Screen Australia. It marks a natural next step in the programme's evolution: since its launch in 2019, First Cut Lab has grown from a European-rooted initiative into a truly international one. This collaboration will allow selected creative teams to test their edit with professional audiences across the globe, further strengthening First Cut Lab's ties with the Australian film industry."

Submissions for projects are now open, call is ongoing all year long and can be submitted directecly to Screen Australia for consideration.
